She wept at once, with sudden, hazardous abandonment, inher sisters arms, shows that the tone was of desperation andheartache. Though, as the sights and sounds of spring revealthemselves through the window, the tone dramatically changesto a tasteful, newfound youth. The thoughts of deliciousbreath of rain or notes of a yon song bring thefeeling of livelihood to one. Then, the words Free, free,free, bring Mrs. Mallards realization that her lifefrom now on is her own, and exit not be succumbed to theneeds and wishes of her husband. Her pulse increases and herchest rises with fervor, as she recognizes this affair thatwas approaching to posses her, which depicts how the tone,once again is about to change. She has now found a newdesire for life. However, without warning, the tone abruptlyreverts back to its grief stricken horror. As Mr. Mallardwalks in the door, her thoughts, dreams, and aspirations,quickly fade away. Louises heart, so weak, simply stops andall bliss transfers into extreme heartache. The drasticchanges of tone reveals that freedom can be given and takenfrom someone in a heartbeat and the heartache will alwaysremain.The apparent use of irony in Chopins story presentsthe idea of whether freedom does in fact result in the stateof felicity. At first her ideas of freedom are sorrowful andher heart is broken because of the distraught news. Thoughthe mystical feelings of freedom soon exhume her bodyand the future is now the focusing of her mind. Ironically, hernew found freedom is what soon leads to her devastating lossof life.
