All of the parts are controlled by an organ called the brain, which is located in the head. The brain weighs about 2.75 pounds. The brain is made up of many cells, and I the centre of the body. A hemisphere is half of a sphere, so this means, the brain divided into two parts or hemispheres. There is the right and the left. These hemispheres appear to be identical, but closer examination reveals that they are highly specialized regions that serve different functions. The left hemisphere enables our ability to express ourselves in language. In over 95% of right-handed people the left hemisphere is dominant for speech. The figure is somewhat lower for left hander’s, approximately 70%, but still highly significant. The left hemisphere is better than the right at recognizing sequences of words and letters. It controls our logic, our reasoning, and our analytical thought processes. It can focus on details, however it has difficulty comprehending the whole picture. The perceptual functions of the right hemisphere are more specialized for the analysis of space and geometrical shapes and forms, elements that are all present at the same time (not so sequential like language). And far from having separate lives, the two halves work together. They are not isolated systems that compete or engage in some kind of cerebral tug-of-war; one is not an undisciplined child, the other a spoilsport that throws schoolyard tantrums. Rather, as we have stressed, the brain is a single, marvelously complicated, and deeply integrated system. Like those of a well-maintained bicycle, the parts of the brain do have different functions but, like the parts of a bike, they are designed to work together. Finally, as we discussed earlier, there is solid evidence that none of us relies primarily on one or the other hemisphere. Don DeLillo Throughout the twentieth-century, humanity has had the privilege of reading the works of many fine authors. Authors such as Toni Morrison, James Joyce, and even Robert Pinsky all come to mind. But when one thinks of the most prolific writers in the twentieth century, Don DeLillo is certainly one of them. Born in New York City in a small Italian neighborhood in the Bronx, DeLillo was destined to be a writer. He attended Fordham University where, upon graduation, he worked for an advertising agency. Dissatisfied, he left the agency in 1964 to begin working as a freelance writer. As a freelance writer, sustaining a living on a mere two thousand dollars a year. DeLillo wrote on a vast amount of subjects including computers and furniture and began to work on his first novel, Americana. It was his first published novel that took him nearly four years to finish. Although DeLillo encountered many obstacles during work on Americana, he persevered overcoming "constant interruptions to make money" (Charters 428). It was during this time that DeLillo knew that he was a writer. Other novels were born after Americana. End Zone, which was written shortly thereafter, also achieved significant success. During the next twelve years, DeLillo wrote five more novels including the breakthrough White Noise that was published in 1985 and for which he won the coveted American Book Award. Other novels followed including Libra in 1988 and the 1991 debut of Mao II, a novel about terrorism and political violence which won DeLillo the PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction. In addition to his novels, DeLillo also wrote plays, short stories and essays on various contemporary subjects. Ebola virus is the causative agent for hemorrhagic fever (commonly referred to as Ebola), a zoonotic disease transmitted to humans via direct contact with the body fluid of infected live or dead animals. Molecular and immunologic characterization of Ebola virus isolates has led to their classification into four subtypes that include; (i) Ebola Sudan, (ii) Ebola Zaire, (iii) Ebola Ivory Coast and (iv) Ebola Reston. With an exception of E. Reston whose origin is in Asia and has no any reported incident of causing human disease, these subtypes are widely found on the African subcontinent where several cases of their pathogenicity for humans have been reported. Spread of Ebola Virus The Ebola virus spreads mostly through body fluids such as blood to those who have immediate personal contact with the person who is severely ill. For example, health care workers and family members have high chances of contracting the virus when treating and taking care of the infected patients. Poor sanitary conditions, characterized by lack of clean water, needles, syringes, and means of sterilizing an area contaminated with the fluids of a victim contribute significantly to the spread the virus. No cases of airborne transmission have so far been reported in humans, although this is more probable in monkeys. The spread of the virus is also likely to occur through sexual transmission, especially for those who already show some signs of the infection. Similarly, there may be some risk of transmission of the virus through genital discharges shortly after recovery for persons who have been previously infected. Â  Generally, the risk of transmission of the virus is more likely in the advanced stages of the disease as the body fluids tend to flow more freely through hemorrhaging, vomiting and diarrhea.
